The sun’s energy is made up of three distinct parts: ultraviolet (UV) light, visible light, and infrared (IR) radiation. In the past, many commercial buildings used tinted or reflective glass products to reduce the solar heat gain that occurred through a building’s windows. Unfortunately, these products also reduced the amount of visible light that could enter through a building’s windows. As a result, this reduction in visible light often led to an increased need for artificial lighting in these buildings. In order to take advantage of the potential savings that natural lighting can deliver, the lighting industry worked for years to develop functional and effective products, including glass with special properties that actually blocks or re-radiates the IR energy from the sun and reduces solar gain through windows, while maintaining high levels of visible light transmittance.

In addition, more and more cities around the world have implemented new laws regarding energy use. Because of this, many facilities, apartment complexes, and large buildings are now taking steps to strengthen their energy-saving systems and procedures. In fact, according to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), it is estimated that the amount of energy lost annually through windows is US$35 billion. With the help of newly developed glass products, people can reduce their energy costs while increasing their comfort.

Dresden, a subsidiary of Nanliang group, which is a company with over 43 years of experience in polymer material technology, has recently introduced NF Film, a lamination of multiple, extremely thin, nanometer-level layers designed to be an environmentally friendly solution that increases energy-efficiency in homes via their windows. This cutting-edge thin film delivers solar-radiation shielding, heat- and sound-insulation, and more, and it has amazed the industry with its performance, quality, and price competitiveness. Best of all, Dresden’s patented structure excludes heavy metal inputs, leaving zero concern about metal oxide and other related problems.

The L-Series, one of Dresden’s best-selling products and its principle energy-saving solution, combines two 5mm laminated glass panes with Dresden’s trademark NF Film in between. The L-Series blocks 95 percent of heat radiation (IR) and 36dB of noise, while allowing excellent visible light transmittance of up to 80 percent.

Dresden’s other featured product, the H-Series, consists of five layers, with an NF Film and a layer of dry air or argon sandwiched between three 5mm laminated glass panes. This structure significantly increases the effectiveness of the heat insulation. The H-Series blocks 95 percent of heat radiation. It also blocks 99 percent of UV, which prevents sunburn and damage to commodities and interior fittings. In addition, the H-Series maintains high levels of visible light transmittance of up to 80 percent.

Both the L- and H-Series also provide increased safety by preventing the scattering of glass fragments after impact or during an earthquake. In addition, both products have been widely acclaimed for their all-around energy saving capabilities. Dresden’s products help save energy throughout the year by cooling rooms and reducing the dependence on air conditioning in the summertime, and by reducing heating costs during colder seasons without obstructing the daylight.

With a strong background in polymer-material technology, industrial-material manufacturing, and supply-chain management, Dresden offers custom-made solutions as well as window products that deliver both daylight and solar radiation shielding at levels that are close to the theoretical limit. And perhaps best of all, Dresden’s products always deliver high CP-value (cost-to-performance ratio). In fact, with a cost similar to double-glazing glass, Dresden’s H-Series outperforms double-glazing glass when it comes to temperature difference, sound insulation, and safety. In comparison with Low-E, the H-Series performs slightly better, but is 10-15 percent cheaper.
