If you have Windows 7 or Windows 8 on your PC, chances are, Microsoft will give you a free upgrade to Windows 10.

Windows 10 is the newest version of the Microsoft Operating System and they say it will be faster with quick startups and resume.

Microsoft says that the upcoming Windows OS version will integrate Cortana. It’s a personal digital assistant (PDA) that will help you get things done. Cortana is the name of the artificial intelligence that helps players in the Xbox first person shooter, Halo. It’s also Microsoft’s answer to Apple’s ever helpful Siri PDA.

It kind of makes sense to use one of their properties for Windows 10.

Windows 10 also integrates Microsoft Edge, an all-new browser that is designed to get things done online in new ways. It has built-in commenting on the web – via typing or inking — sharing comments. It also has a reading view that promises to make reading web sites faster and easier. Together with Cortana, Microsoft also says that it’ll make interacting with the Web far more intuitive and richer.

It’ll also work better with Xbox Live and the integrated Xbox App will bring new game experiences to Windows 10. It’s another reason why I’m excited about it because I play on Xbox live. Maybe it’ll work great on Microsoft Hololens as well.

Now I’ve been a Windows Operating System user since the late 80s ( I know I’m old) and I’ve used Windows 2.x, 3.0 3.11. Then we moved onto Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows XP, one of the best operating systems.

I’ve held onto Windows XP because it was stable and great to use. In 2009, I had to use Windows Vista when I moved onto laptop computers. It wasn’t the best but in 2012, I bought a new laptop and it came with Windows 7 and it is by far, the most stable OS that I’ve used. Windows 7 worked great on my laptop and I’m happy with it.

So am I excited about Windows 10? That I am. I didn’t move to Windows 8 because there was no compelling reason yet. Plus the fact that it cost a mint to get the OS.

But since Microsoft said that Windows 10 is free, I might try it out. It is my hope that I won’t have to shell out a ton of money to use some of its finer features.

Windows 10 will be available this July 29. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed.
