It’s like one of those solar power systems you see in science fiction movies. But it’s now available.

Why is this system a significant step to power our Smart Homes?

Well, one of the things that you have to deal with building your grid-tied or off-grid alternative power systems is its disparate components.  If you’re installing a solar power system, you’ll likely need to connect solar panels, connect them to an inverter and a deep cycle battery.  You’ll also need cables, mounting rails and a crack team of installers for your solar power system.

It’s a lot of work and you need to plan where each of these components will be placed in your home. The Smartflower POP+ is an integrated system.  It has its own built in solar panels, inverter and housing for the batteries. It’s all self-contained and you can run this 100% off the grid, day and night.

It has 18 m2 solar module panels that follows the sun independently through its two movable axes.  According to the makers, it can produce an annual yield of 3,400 and 6,200 kWh. It can cover the electricity requirement of a very modern household.

It has a plug and play setup. You’ll still need to have specialists hook the Smartflower POP+ to your house but at least it won’t take the whole day to install it.   It can be set-up on any freely available surface and is ready to use after less than an hour.

We’ve already featured Tesla’s powerwall  and other alternative power systems but this one takes the cake if it really works as advertised.

Now, we’re hoping that one of our Philippine-based solar power providers will import or sell these.  We’re keeping our fingers crossed.
