Intel’s Compute Stick and Google’s Chromebit USB dongle-sized computers are pretty impressive.

It packs in a computer in a small form factor. Sure it can’t play games or run a ton of applications but it can do a lot for you.

C.H.I.P. is another USB dongle-sized computer that’s currently on Kickstarter.com. It runs on a  1 Ghz processor with 512 MB of Main Memory and 4 Gb of storage. And it’s pretty cheap.  It’s the World’s first US$ 9 computer.

C.H.I.P.lets you do word processing using LibreOffice, surf the Internet. and play graphics-light games. It has an open source Operating system and in spite of the small storage space, it can run a ton of pre-loaded applications and more.  This computer can work on any screen as it has a built-in composite output. Add a adapter for either VGA or HDMI so you can attach it to your HDTV.    They even have portable unit with a touch screen display and QWERTY keyboard.

The makers of  C.H.I.P said that they needed a lot of orders so they can manufacture and sell it at US$9.  Judging from the number of backers, we can say it’s mission accomplished.  The kickstarer backers will start getting their C.H.I.P  May 2016.
