We love devices and platforms that turn ordinary household appliances into smart ones.

There was Littlebits, a smart automation kit, that we featured months ago. Littlebits is already out and you can get it already.

And then there’s Cubit.

It’s a kickstarter project but we like what it can do for smart home owners.

Just like Littlebits, Cubit is a combination of hardware and software. This programmable platform allows you to convert an appliance into a smart device.

The hardware is pretty simple to use and you don’t need to solder anything. You’ll still need to program for it work though. What’s great about it is you don’t have to know coding (although it helps).

Its interface allows you to drag and drag pre-built apps onto it and from the looks of it, it should be a joy to use.

Check out the Cubit Features:

Cubit Features:

Wireless– The Cubit Controller comes with bluetooth so you can program Cubit wirelessly. With it, you can wirelessly control Cubit from your device!

Hardware Flexibility – Use our plug-and-play Smartwares or use your own electronic components!
Program Flexibility – Create programs quickly using their drag-and-drop visual program. Write your own code in Lua, or use a combination of the two.

Scalability– Out of the box controller-to-controller wireless and wired communication. Create a network of Cubit Controllers!
Expandability– Add more hardware onto it with the Cubit Controller’s Smartports. You can put in up to 30 add-ons with the use of Multiplexer Smartwares.

Multi-Tasking – Create many independent programs in Workshop. And the Cubit Controller will run all applications at the same time.

Real-Time Debugging – Workshop offers real-time visual debugging. Check and see exactly where and how your program flows during runtime!

Data Logging – You can record a ton of inputs through Workshop. Useful for science projects and to track value changes over time.

Graphing – Playback your recorded data on a graph right within Workshop!

You can use it for home automation, automated gardening, and build science projects.

The Cubit has already met its funding goal but you can still back it. The Cubit will start shipping January of next year. Check out it on Kickstarter or click here.
