We’re not talking about the old cathode ray curved TVs. We’re talking about curved LCD TVs like Samsung and LG are coming out with. According to latest NPD DisplaySearch Quarterly TV Design and Features Report released last April, curved TV display shipments will reach nearly 800,000 this year but it is expected to exceed 6 million units by the end of 2017. It’s not the biggest comeback as some of us believe. Cost is one detriment to getting one, and reports say that these new curved TVs might not even deliver the visual oomph.

If you’ve watched an IMAX movie before, most of the time, you’d want to sit at the center or near the center. Watching an IMAX movie near the sides doesn’t equate to the splendor of watching in the center of the screen. But it’s still pretty decent.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t translate well to screen that’s only 65 inches big.

Samsung Curved TV

You’d have to be in the center of screen to fully appreciate curved TV’s awesome cinema quality. If you’ve got a big group watching the screen, there will be definite jostling for the center spots, similar to guaranteed seats located in the center being snatched up early.

Maybe they’ll come out with a special glass that allows you to experience the curved cinema effect anywhere you sit. Maybe.
