You can now turn  your HDMI TV into a computer and you don’t have to buy any kind of box or mod your TV or anything.  Just get the Intel Compute Stick or the Asus Chromebit.

Intel’s Compute Stick is literally a PC on a large USB Dongle form factor . It’s slightly thicker than a portable hard drive. The great thing about is that you can definitely put this on a shirt pocket.

Intel Compute Stick

In spite of its size, it has impressive specs under the hood: Intel Atom Quad Core processor; 2GB RAM and 32GB  SSD (Solid State Drive).

The Asus Chromebit is  smaller than the Compute Stick. It’s powered by a  Rockchip 3288 processor with  2GB of RAM and a 16GB Solid State Drive. Both stick computers will require Bluetooth-enabled interface devies to run their application. It has built-in Wi-fi  to connect to the Internet.

Asus Chromebit

Attach them to a monitor’s HDMI port to run them.  The Intel Compute Stick has a Windows OS version. It’s also available in Linux. The Asus Chromebit, as you may have guessed, runs the Chrome OS and has applications running on the Cloud.

The Intel Compute Stick and Asus Chromebit will be available this month. But it may take a while to get them since they’re already sold out on online shopping sites like Newegg.com and Amazon.com

Users won’t be playing Call of Duty and other games on the Compute Stick and Chromebit. It’ll be useful for browsing the Web,  working on Word and Excel Documents and more. The great thing about using this PC-on-a-Dongle is that you’ll have a big display. You don’t have to squint anymore and do all your  computing work in the comfort of your living room.  This could be a great option for  setting up a Smart Home with every HDMI TV in the home acting as a computer as well.   Since it’s powered by the HDMI, port, both devices will generate less greenhouse emissions.

We’ll have more updates on the PC-on-a-Dongle so stay tuned.
