Imagine being able to interact with objects in a 3D world without the use of a controller.
As any gamer knows, we mainly interact with the virtual world via the game controller. The introduction of the Xbox Kinect into the world of gaming is genius. It allows gesture control and movement to control and play games. I’ve enjoyed playing on the Kinect immensely but it’s not interactive enough. There isn’t a technology yet that allows you to pick up something in-game with your hand. Intel’s RealSense 3D could change that real soon.
RealSense 3D integrate three lenses: a conventional camera, an infrared camera, and an infrared laser projector. It sees more like we do. On top of that, it can track gesture control way better with 22 tracking points per hand.
What can it do? Well, it can do more than an Xbox Kinect or the Sony Playstation Move or the Wii U controlers. RealSense 3D is better at augmented reality, facial mapping and more.’
Check out this small video we grabbed from the Intel site.
If things work out with RealSense 3D, gamers will able to interact with their virtual world in a more realistic way.
In the very near future, you’ll be able to point and fire imaginary guns with gesture control in shooting games. Gamers will even be able to set their guns to automatic and semi-automatic fire.
At some point, you’ll be able to pick up a virtual grenade with your own hand and throw it back.
Or if you’re in a fantasy hack and slash game, you can pick up a dagger and throw it to kill a troll or demon.
Awesome, we tell you. Let’s hope Intel develops this and the game developers use this new technology for their new titles.
